Game: Oakland Athletics @ Toronto Blue Jays
Sport: Baseball
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays, money line
Reason for Pick:
Jays SP Ricky Romero is looking to continue his great start to his major league career. The former first round pick is 1.0 with a 2.57 ERA so far this year.
Romero has pitched very well in his first two outings, although he was unable to come away with a victory his last time out. The 24-year-old left-hander pitched eight innings against Minnesota on Tuesday, allowing two runs and eight hits in a 3-2, 11-inning loss. He has never faced the Athletics.
He'll oppose Dallas Braden (1-1, 3.75), who had an effective start Monday against Boston, pitching six innings, allowing two runs and six hits in an 8-2 win. He retired 12 of 13 batters at one point. He faced the Jays once last year giving up three runs and five hits in 2.2 innings of work.
I expect Romero to shut down the A's and the Jays to win their fourth straight series.
Game: Cleveland Indians @ New York Yankees
Sport: Baseball
Pick: Over 10.5
Reason for Pick:
The pitching so far this series has been hit hard and it looks like that will continue in this afternoon's game.
The Indians send journeyman Carl Pavano to the mound who spent four years with the Yanks. There will be plenty of distractions for Pavano as Yankees fans will probably turn their boos towards him (0-2, 16.71 ERA), who was a bust for New York after signing a four-year, $40 million contract in 2005. Pavano endured an injury-plagued tenure with the Yankees, going 9-8 with a 5.00 ERA in 26 starts over the four seasons.
Although the Yanks will be sending one of their best pitchers to the mound today, he has struggled against the Indians. The right-hander is 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA in his last four starts against them.
Burnett will try to slow down an offense that produced 25 hits Saturday. Mark DeRosa went 4-for-7 and tied a career high with six RBIs, while Asdrubal Cabrera tied a career mark with four hits and drove in five runs.
The Yankees have allowed a double-digit run total in three of their last six games, including a 10-2 loss Thursday in the first game at the new Yankee Stadium.
